We’ve all heard the expression. “Why buy a Toyota by the individual parts?” When it comes to credit, there is a lot of truth in that analogy.

Yes. Credit insurance IS less expensive if you can furnish a portfolio of credits. But not because of what you may have heard. Simply put, insurers have different ‘factories’ (aka ‘reinsurers’) for selling trade credit insurance, and the factory ‘making’ (underwriting) their portfolio products has a lower cost than their factory for the single credit insurance product.

Which customer companies are eligible?

Any and all of them. The customer can be foreign, domestic, public, and even private.

Who are the sellers in this market?

Sellers are commercial insurers and government owned insurers – aka Export Credit Agencies (ECAs). All investment grade. You can find some examples of sellers at the bottom of our home page.

What’s the cost?

There are two methodologies.

• Insurers charge by the amount invoiced. These prices often range from 0.10% – 0.65%, depending on the various countries in which the customers are located. Irrespective of price, sellers will have individual minimums, and these start at $25K.
• Insurers charge on the dollar amount insured. This is a conventional per annum rate. Investment grade names can be as low as 0.40 – 45% per annum.
